Included With Every Archive

The Meaning
Every tradition that takes causality seriously arrives at the same working assumption — the Stoics, the Confucian scholars, the astrologers who set the sailing calendars, the investor who will not sign on the anniversary of a loss. Outcomes are not authored at the moment they become visible; they are the settled account of a long series of small, unglamorous decisions. Attention is the scarce asset, and it is spent, almost entirely, on things that will not matter in a month.
This is what the object is for — worn against the skin, heavy, very slightly in the way at all times. That is not a tolerance we failed to design out. That is the specification. We make no claim about what the metal does. We make a specific claim about what it is: the densest, hardest, least negotiable object you will put on your body, positioned where you cannot set it down.
